BSc Management (UoL External System)

Introduction
This course is aimed at individuals who are aspiring to become effective business managers or specialists in any area of business and industry. The programme will equip you with a sound and in-depth understanding of the nature and processes of business management as well as providing a practitioner’s insight into current business and organisational issues and themes.
The course is specifically designed to provide tuition to students who are already registered, or are about to register for this degree programme with the University of London as an External student.
The University of London External System offers a number of degrees in many disciplines. However, London College of Management Studies offers tuition for BSc Management, as a totally independent tuition provider.

Programme structure
You take twelve subjects over three years or nine subjects if you hold a Bachelors degree from a recognised university in addition to the minimum requirements.

The entire programme is divided into twelve units:
Year-1: Foundation Units (4 Subjects)

1. 02        Introduction to Economics
2. 04a      Statistics 1 (half unit)
    05a      Mathematics 1 (half unit)
3.  21        Principles of Sociology
4.  25        Principles of accounting

Year-2: One Foundation unit and three further units

5. 107      Introduction to Business and Management
6. 28        Managerial Economics (02+05a)
7. 127      Organisation Theory: an interdisciplinary
               approach (02 or 21)
8. 119      Strategy (02 +05a)

Year-3: Four further units

9. 75        Human Resource Management
10. 27        The Law of business organisations
11. 145      Social research methods (21)
12. 141      Principles of Marketing (02 or 21)

Assessment
Each unit is assessed by one three-hour unseen written examination.

Entry Requirements
An applicant must be at least 18 years of age at the time of enrolling for these courses with the University of London. You must have reached a competent level in Mathematics, and at least have achieved a grade C in a Mathematical subject at GCSE/GCE ‘O’ Level.

Additionally applicants should have attained:       

Two subjects at GCE 'A' Level, plus at least three further subjects at GCSE or GCE 'O' Level at Grade C or above
OR three subjects at GCE 'A' Level (with one `A` level at not less than Grade D)
OR three subjects at GCE `A` level and one further subjects at GCSE/GCE `O` level at Grade C or above       
OR two subjects at GCE 'A' Level, plus two further subjects at GCE `AS` level and

  • Demonstrate competence in Mathematics at least equivalent to GCSE/GCE `O` level at Grade C or above and
  • Provide proof of competence in English which is acceptable to the University. A test of proficiency may be required.

English Language Requirement
All applicants must demonstrate that they are competent in written and spoken English. Those failing to meet an acceptable level must take a prescribed course in English provided by this college or by some other provider. Graduate Entry Route to BSc Management

Year-1: Foundation Units (4 Subjects)

Entry Requirements
In addition to the Entry Requirements for the BSc Management, students must hold a full first degree completed in a minimum of three years duration on a full-time basis (or equivalent) from a university or other institution acceptable to the University of London.
Note: Applicants holding professional and/or postgraduate qualifications without a full first-degree can not be considered for the admission to the Graduate Entry Route

English Language Requirement
All applicants must demonstrate that they are competent in written and spoken English. Those failing to meet an acceptable level must take a prescribed course in English provided by this college or by some other provider. Access Route

A preparatory programme provided for those applicants who do not meet the standard entry requirements. This one (1) year programme consists of two subjects. Both subjects must be taken and passed at one exam sitting:

1. 02        Introduction to Economics
2. 10        Introduction to Sociology


On successful completion of the access route students will gain entry to the BSc Management and, in addition, gain credits for the subjects passed at the access level. Therefore such students would not be required to take these subjects at the foundation level, but can proceed directly with other subjects.

Entry Requirements

  • be 18 years old before 1 September in the year that you register with the University of London
  • have passed at grade C or above in at least four separate subjects at GCSE/GCE 'O' Level, or the equivalent and
  • have reached a level of competence in Mathematics at least equivalent to a pass at GCSE/GCE 'O' Level in a Mathematical subject at grade C or above
  • Provide proof of your competence in English, which is acceptable to Uni­versity of London.

Student registration with the University of London

Special Admissions
University of London has a Special Admissions Panel that may consider an application for students not fulfilling the entry criteria above. Please see the University of London Prospectus for full details.

You may apply to the University of London at anytime during the year but applications are processed from January to September for non EU and October EU students. The University of London’s deadline for application is October 17, but in order to avoid delay, we strongly recommend that applications are submitted as early as possible.
