Rationale:
The dominance of MBA from the array of postgraduate qualifications in humanities is destined to continue. This is a worldwide phenomenon. As the experts would opine – with more growth and development, more managers are needed, not less. Students, therefore, flock to universities/institutes to get admission into the programme leading to an MBA. But it is also the experience of academic bodies that very many students find it rather difficult to cope with the pressure that an MBA programme creates. Many students get stuck and even leave halfway through the course without getting anything concrete in return.

This is a gap that has to be reckoned with. The PGDMS from the LCMS has been constructed to take care of this.

First, the course has been designed to make it a good stepping stone to undertaking an MBA programme in highly recognized and prestigious institutes. The demands and pressures created to successfully complete an MBA programme are more easily negotiated. The experience of LCMS’s alumni, having completed the PGDMS, suggests so.

Secondly, the PGDMS is a self-contained course. It is fulltime and is completed over a time span of fifteen months. It has two components – taught units with a total of eight (8) subjects covered over a period of twelve months and a dissertation lasting for the remaining three months. The subjects taught have been very carefully chosen with a deliberate focus on strategy. Together, they provide a good insight into how organizational systems contribute to managerial effectiveness.
Thirdly, it is to be reckoned that management is an inter-disciplinary affair and the subjects taught must never be treated as compartmentalized. There is a great need that the students develop the capability as to how to integrate the subjects taught in the classrooms to solve any management problem. The three month long dissertation part of the PGDMS takes care of this. Students research real life managerial problems from selected organizations and submit reports containing recommendations for the individual organizations. This is an area of crucial importance for management students. Many institutes/universities offering management qualifications leave this area of concern unanswered. LCMS has been successful in answering this concern by virtue of the methodology it has developed. Indeed, the dissertation part of PGDMS from LCMS has been found to be a major source of value addition to the overall effectiveness of this programme.    
Programme Structure:
London College of Management Studies (LCMS) offers this structured course package that gives business graduates the opportunity to develop their analytical skills and personal effectiveness, to think globally and meet the needs of modern business, while gaining a well recognised qualification. The Diploma consists of eight taught units and a self-directed research project, which normally takes a total of 15 months. This qualification will allow upward progression to the MBA or MA in business-related courses.
Programme Objectives:
The major objective of the programme is to expose the students to the world of business. In more detail, it would enable them to:
understand the various concepts of management and their applications in the real business world and demonstrate managerial skills in a developmental way.
identify and apply specialist expertise relevant to the various sub-disciplines of management such as Marketing Management, Business and Financial Accounting, Economics, Strategy, HRM, Organisational Behaviour, Management Information Systems, etc.
critically analyse management theories and assess the business situation, set attainable objectives, generate effective business policies and oversee their effective implementation.
understand how to carry out any business research project in a scientific manner by applying appropriate methodologies.
Assessment:
Each course will be assessed by a combination of Assignments and/or quizzes (20%) and Formal Examinations (80%). Assignments are meant to provide the students with the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of theories learned in the classroom context and their applications. All assignments will be group based and will require presentation by all members of the group. Presentation will have a separate component in group mark.

Moderation:
In order to make assessment as fair as possible a system of moderation has been put in place. The results are presented to the Academic Board for formal approval of grades. All assessments are reviewed by our Academic Board which is comprised of reputable academics from British Universities both internal and external.

Fifteen months including Dissertation

Programme commencement:
January and September
Entry requirements:
A first degree in business related subjects from a recognised university or institution.
HND plus minimum 4 years relevant work experience.
Students with a first degree, but not in a business domain, must have at least three years management experience.
Students who have no accounting experience may be required to join an introductory accounting class on commencement of the DMS programme.
ABE Advanced Diploma or equivalent with three years relevant work experience.

The following marking & grading scale will apply for each subject:

0-49%

F Fail
50-59% C Pass
60-69% B Credit Level 1
70-74% B+ Credit level 2
75-89% A Distinction
90-100% A+ High Distinction
English Language Requirement:
Applicants must also satisfy at least one of following requirements for English proficiency:
The medium of instruction of applicant’s tertiary studies was in English;
A score of 525 or better on the TOFEL;
A score 5.5 or better on the IELTS;
“A” credit or better in English in the GCE “O” or “A” levels or equivalent; or
Any other evidence of proficiency in English acceptable to the Institute Registrar.
