Introduction
This is a two-year course designed primarily for students wishing to further their education in Health & Social Care, nursing and other British professional and academic qualifications. At the end of the first year, candidates will acquire the Level 2 Certificate in Health & Social Care and at the end of the second year they will get the Level 3.
Aim and Objectives
These certificates in Health and Social Care aim at providing work-based, vocational related qualifications. The course content is designed to provide the required underpinning knowledge for the NVQs in Health and Social Care. Candidates will be required to complete a number of assignments which contain both practical and theoretical activities with focus on real work situations.

The programme content is varied to ensure that students acquire other necessary skills that are essential for a successful career in the Health & Social Care sector.

This certificate has two pathways from which candidates can choose:
Pathway 1: for those working or wishing to work with children and Young People
Pathway 2: for those working with adults
The following units are designed for candidates to develop their appropriate skills:
Unit 5 Reflecting on and developing own practice in a health & social care setting
Unit 6 Promoting effective communication for and about individuals in a health & social care setting
Unit 7 Promote health and safety in a health & social care setting
Unit 8 Promoting the care, well-being and protection of children and young people
Unit 9 Promoting choice, well-being and protection of all individuals in a health & social care setting
Candidates will have to choose 3 optional units to complete the Certificate course.

Candidates are required to complete all assignments which contain both practical and theoretical activities focussed on real work situations.
Delivery Methods
This is a tutor-led full-time programme for non-UK nationals and can be offered part-time to UK and EU nationals. The full-time will be delivered from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm while the part-time will come once a week on Mondays only.
Duration
This is a 2-year programme and will begin every January and July. The course will run for 15 weeks in the first year and 25 weeks in the second year.
Entry Requirements
City & Guilds does not require any formal qualifications for entry to this programme although applicants must be over 18 and currently working in a care environment or have access to such work exposure. Applicants already holding the Level 2 Certificate in Health & Social Care may start in the second year for the Level 3 Certificate.
Progression Route
While candidates who have completed Level 2 can progress to level 3, candidates with level 3 can progress to Level 4 qualification or Level 3 or 4 N/SVQ in Health & Social Care provided they have access to an appropriate work setting. The course also leads to nursing and other British professional and academic qualifications.
Commencement and Duration
Courses are designed to commence January and September of every year and will run for one academic cycle (9 months). Early registration is encouraged.
Certification of Units Completed
The Level 2 Certificate is designed to be completed in 180 GHL offered in (nine months) while Level 3 can be completed in 240 hours GLH. However, where the full programme is not yet completed a candidate may request certification for completed units.
