CTH Diploma in Hotel Management

The Diploma in Hotel Management aims to provide students with a broad understanding of the operational aspects of the international hotel industry, and a knowledge of the underlying principles involved. It seeks to combine sound theory and craft based learning. It aims at providing students with the appropriate operational skills for rooms division, reception, and food and beverage management along with developing a professional attitude for the hospitality industry.

This programme has been devised on the basis that students will attend a course of study of not less than 450 hours. Wider reading and private study will be required over and above this figure. Each of the modules has a two and a half hour examination, set and marked by CTH.



Programme Structure

To achieve the award of Diploma in Hotel Management students will be required to successfully complete the following units.

  • Food, Hygene, Health and Safety
  • Front Office Operations
  • Housekeeping and Accommodation Operations
  • Finance for Hospitality and Tourism
  • Business Operations in Hospitality and Tourism
  • Marketing for Tourism and Hospitality
  • The Tourism Industry
  • Business Computing
  • The Global Hospitality Industry

Module Assessment

All the units will be assessed via a two and a half hour practical examination set and marked by CTH except Business Computing Unit. The examination will cover the whole of the assessment criteria in these units and will take the form of 10x2 mark questions and 5x4 mark questions in section A (40 marks). Section B will comprise of 5x20 mark questions of which candidates must select and answer three (60 marks).

 

The Business Computing unit`s assessment comprises of four compulsory questions. Candidates will complete this examination on a computer at the centre.

Entry requirements

Eligible candidates will be expected to satisfy one of the following requirements:

2 GCE `A` levels together with four GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English language and Mathematics.

Mature candidates without any formal qualifications but with appropriate work experience may also apply


English Requirements

Applicants must also satisfy at least one of following requirements for English proficiency:

The medium of instruction of applicant’s tertiary studies was in English;

The medium of instruction of applicant’s tertiary studies was in English;

A score 5.5 or better on the IELTS;

‘A’ credit or better in English in the GCE ‘O’ or ‘A’ levels or equivalent. Or

Any other evidence of proficiency in English acceptable to the College
