The Advanced Diploma in Tourism Management aims to provide an understanding of the managerial, decision making and leadership aspects of the international tourism industry and to develop the independent research skills which will be required when working as a senior manager in the industry. The CTH Advanced Diploma will ensure a best possible pathway to your professional career in hospitality, tourism or events.

 

In addition it is also designed to develop the independent research skills which will be required when working as a senior manager in the industry. The scheme has been devised on the basis that students will attend a course of study of not less than 450 contact hours. Extensive wider reading and private study will be required over and above this figure.

 

This qualification is ideally suited for those students with managerial aspirations. As managers in the tourism industry you will require an understanding of the interrelationships of the elements involved. You will need to able to demonstrate strategic thinking, creativity, intercultural understanding, high level communication skills and leadership. With this comprehensive and highly esteemed qualification you will be equipped with the competitive advantage to securing a career in Tourism Management.



Programme Structure

To achieve the award of Advanced Diploma in Tourism Management students will be required to successfully complete the following units.

 

  • Tour Operations
  • Management Accounting
  • Strategic Management
  • Sustainable Tourism and Destination Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • Management Research Report

Module Assessment

Five of the six modules are assessed by an assignment and a three hour examination. The sixth module is assessed through a 5000 word Management Research Report. All assessments are marked by CTH.

Entry requirements

Eligible candidates will be expected to satisfy one of the following requirements:

CTH Diploma in Tourism Management

BTEC National Diploma in Hotel and Catering

ICM Diploma in Hotel & catering Management

ICM Diploma in Tourism and Business Studies

 

If a candidate has completed their study at Diploma level and wishes to begin their study at Advanced Diploma level then the candidate must have passed at least five Diploma level unit examinations to be able to progress.

Please note: candidates will not receive their Advanced Diploma Certificate if they have not passed all units at Diploma level


English Requirements

Applicants must also satisfy at least one of following requirements for English proficiency:

The medium of instruction of applicant’s tertiary studies was in English;

The medium of instruction of applicant’s tertiary studies was in English;

A score 5.5 or better on the IELTS;

‘A’ credit or better in English in the GCE ‘O’ or ‘A’ levels or equivalent. Or

Any other evidence of proficiency in English acceptable to the College
