Student Application Procedure

PHASE-1: ACCEPTANCE ON A COURSE

The application procedure at LCMS is designed to be as straightforward as possible:
A prospective student may obtain the college prospectus and application form directly from the college website or by request through the post. Having selected the course they wish to follow, the student must firstly ensure that they meet the specified entry requirements.
The completed application form should then be submitted to the college together with the following items:

Two passport sized photographs.
Copies of qualifications: an official body should attest these; otherwise the original documents must be provided on arrival.
- English language test results (IELTS or TOEFL or equivalent)
Payment of the registration fee (£50), minimum deposit for the course and £15 to cover UKBA CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) fees and LCMS administrative cost

The college will then send students information to UKBA to acquire CAS reference. Once we receive this identical reference then we will issue documentation to confirm that the person has been accepted as a student at LCMS and enrolled on the course selected.

The remaining balance of the tuition fees can be paid in one of the following options:

  1. Full payment for the whole duration of the course (eligible for 10% discount)
  2. 4 equal instalments for the academic year.
  3. Mutually agreed payment plan for the rest of the fees

Students applying from overseas may transfer the payment of their course fees directly to the college bank account as below:
(the transfer document should also be faxed to the college)

London College of Management Studies
Natwest Bank
Greenwich Business Centre
2 Greenwich Church Street
Sort-code: 60-09-16
Account No: 73526886

If necessary, documentation can be provided for bank purposes only on payment of the registration fee (£50). This will confirm that the prospective student will be accepted on the course selected on payment of the appropriate deposit but will not confirm enrolment and cannot therefore be used for visa application.

PHASE-2: Student Visa

As from 31st March 2009 there are new regulations concerning the Students Visa. Please ensure that you have read the information available on the following website:
www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk/

Students from the European Economic Area (EAA) and Switzerland will not require a visa to enter the UK.

The British High Commissions and Consulates across the world are generally pleased to assist genuine students who intend to undertake a course of full-time study in the United Kingdom.

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) will only allow adult students from overseas to study in the UK where they can demonstrate a proven track record in studying before they come here.

Under the latest regulations drawn up by UKBA most applicants from outside the UK will come under the ‘General Students’ category. To gain a ‘General Student’ visa , applicants will have to score points against two sets of objective criteria with an overall pass mark of 40 points:

  • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies - 30 points
  • Maintenance and Funds Test - General Students - 10 points

Before a student is eligible to apply to come to the UK to study they will require an immigration sponsor. The sponsor will be the education provider in the UK that has accepted them on a course of study. LCMS as the sponsoring education provider will issue would-be students with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) providing all the relevant paperwork is in place. Before LCMS can do this we will  need the following documentation and once processed we will apply online to UKBA. You will need to supply LCMS with the following documentation:

  • Academic certificates
  • A photocopy of your passport
  • English language test results (IELTS or TOEFL or equivalent)
  • Any additional reference that might support your application
  • Two passport style photographs A recent passport-sized (45mm x 35mm), colour photograph of yourself.
    This should be:
    • taken against a light-coloured background
    • clear and of good quality, and not framed or backed
    • printed on normal photographic paper, and
    • full face and without sunglasses, hat or other head covering unless you wear this for cultural or religious reasons (but the face must not be covered).

There is an initial charge of £15 for this service made payable to LCMS. This fee covers the £10 UKBA fees and LCMS administration costs involved.

Students applying for a ‘General Student’ visa must be able to support themselves financially as they do not qualify for state benefits once in the UK. Please ensure that you are fully aware of the sums concerned prior to embarking on an application.
You will also need the following.

  • The visa fee. This cannot be refunded and you must normally pay it in the local currency of the country where you are applying.
  • Supporting documents relevant to your application.

What supporting documents should I include with my visa application?

You should include all the documents you can to show that you qualify for entry to the UK as a student. If you do not, UKBA may refuse your application.

The following items will need to be included with the completed application form.

A valid passport.
Two passport-sized photographs.
The final Letter of Acceptance of studies (CAS) from the London College of Management Studies confirming enrolment on the chosen course, the start and finish dates of the course and the payment of tuition fees. Although this letter can be issued on payment of the registration fee and appropriate deposit, intending students are strongly advised to pay the full course fees in advance.
Confirming that all tuition fees and living expenses will be met during the student’s stay in the U.K., via financial statements or a letter from a sponsor.
- Students on courses of 9 months’ duration or less will be required evidence sufficient funds to cover the full costs of their course fees, plus £800 (London) or £600 (outside London) per month for each month of the course up to a maximum of 9 months;
- Students on courses of more than 9 months’ duration will be required to evidence sufficient funds to pay the first year of fees only, plus £7,200 (London) or £5,400 (outside London) to cover a typical academic year in the UK (i.e. 9 months);
Confirmation and details of accommodation in London.
